Dr. Robert Santos, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Robert Santos was born in Turlock and raised on a dairy farm. His deep love of animals led him to Wheaton College for his undergraduate work and then on to Purdue's School of Veterinary Medicine (1991). His lovely wife Kristen has received a doctorate in education. They have two sons, Nickolaus and Teddy and a daughter Phoebe. They all live on their thirty acre ranch called, Einstein Acres that is completely run on solar power.

Since 1991 Dr. Santos has been a part-time instructor as MJC, teaching Animal Health and Animal Behavior. His community activities include serving on the Turlock Historical Society (1993) and the Chatom School Board (1995). He is the Past President of Turlock Downtown Association and was President for NSJVMA (Norther San Joaquin Veterinary Medical Association).

He is now the Co-Chair for the Turlock Centennial Committee, and has recently been elected as part of the Turlock Irrigation District (TID) Board. He also is involved in Carnegie Arts Foundation, Turlock Rotary Noon Club, Turlock Masonic Lodge III 395, and Turlock Exchange Club. He created Vet Club for the local children with interests in animals and also does numerous speaking engagements throughout the year for clubs, 4-H groups, schools and various educational groups.

Dr. Doug Marks, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Doug Marks was born in Omaha NE "many years ago." He grew up in Omaha, Bismark, ND, Decatur, IL, Albany, NY area and Birmingham, AL. He went to three different high schools in three different states (IL, NY & AL). After graduating from Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine (Alabama), he and his wife moved to Turlock.

His family now lives in the country near Hughson He and his wife, Cathy, have been married since 1971. They have three boys, Ryan, Nathan, and Tyler. The Marks have four cats and two dogs.

Dr. Marks and his wife enjoy outdoor activities like camping, backpacking, fishing and 4-wheeling in the mountains in their Jeep. He is an adult leader for the junior high youth group at Monte Vista Chapel and a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scout Troop 451 in Turlock. He heads the Veterinary Explorers Program here at Monte Vista. Dr. Marks had training for Trail Vet in 2007 and will be spending three weeks in Alaska this March as Trail Veterinarian. He is a member of the Turlock Noon Rotary Club, staff veterinarian for Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center, and is a member of many local and national veterinary associations.

Dr. Mary Avalle, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Mary Avalle was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. She left for what was going to be only 4 years when she went to college at the University of Georgia and hasn't made it back yet.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree she went on active duty in the U.S. Army. She was assigned to a base in California and realized this was where she wanted to settle down. Through her association with the armed forces she has lived in and been to exciting places like Honduras, Italy and Louisiana.

After graduate school in Michigan where she obtained a Master of Science degree and after working in research for a few years, she finally got down to the business of veterinary medicine and graduated from the University of Missouri in 2005 with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Avalle made it back to California and worked primarily with dairy cows for a few years before making the transition to small animal medicine.

 Her special veterinary interests include nutrition and geriatric medicine and enjoys exercising and gardening in her spare time. She is happily settled in Turlock with her menagerie of dogs and cats and hopefully chickens soon!

Dr. Brandon Barrett, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Barrett received his bachelors in Biology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1997. He then received his doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis in 2001 and has been working at Community Veterinary Clinic ever since.

He treats both small animals (dogs and cats) and exotic species (birds, reptiles, amphibians, rodents, rabbits, etc.)

Dr. Barrett and his wife Tonia, a local photographer, are both from Turlock. They share their house with their son Grayson, their dog, two cats, two chinchillas, two birds, a bearded dragon, and several fish.

Dr. Barrett is involved with teaching Vet Club for local children along with Dr. Santos and is an instructor at MJC teaching, Surgical and Dental Procedures.

Dr. Lee, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Lee was born and raised in Stockton, California. She attended Lincoln High School and went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Biology from UCLA.

After college, she worked at veterinary hospitals in Woodbridge and Stockton. She recently graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

During vet school, she spent time doing cancer research, volunteering at spay and neuter clinics, and traveled to Honduras to provide veterinary care in an under-served area. She has a passion for surgery, and although she works primarily with dogs and cats, she also has an interest in reptiles and small mammals.

When not working she enjoys running, biking, reading, traveling, and gardening. One of her favorite past times is playing "find it" with her Jack Russell terrier, "Blue."

She enjoys meeting the pets and families of Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital, and she looks forward to meeting you and your pets soon.

Dr. Renae Estrada, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Renae Estrada was born and raised in Denair. She attended Denair Elementary and then attended Denair High School. After high school Dr. Estrada attended Modesto Junior College for one year, she then transferred to Merced Junior College. In her two years at Merced, Dr. Estrada received her AA in general education. She then, transferred to UC Davis to finish her bachelor’s degree in Biology, and continue her education into UC Davis Veterinary School of Medicine. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in June 2008. She is currently working at Monte Vista Small Animal Hospital in Turlock. 

Dr. Estrada lives in Turlock with her husband Sammy and their 2 daughters Coraline and Avery. They also have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and many fish. Dr. Estrada enjoys exercising and staying healthy. Renae stays involved in the community by participating in Vet Club and making frequent visits to schools to discuss veterinary topics. She is a member of the Twenty-Thirty’s Club and of the Northern San Joaquin Veterinary Medical Association (NSJVMA).

Dr. Janna Perez, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Janna Perez is a native of the San Francisco Peninsula. In 2007, she graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor degree in Animal Science. Shortly after, Dr. Perez worked in biomedical research working with transgenic chickens. As a Navy spouse, she relocated to New Jersey and began working as a veterinary technician. In 2009, Dr. Perez returned to California to pursue her dream to become a veterinarian at Western University of Health Sciences. She graduated with honors and a member of Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society.

Prior to joining Monte Vista’s team, Dr. Perez was a solo small animal practitioner in Sacramento. Her interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, dermatology and emergency medicine. She has completed a certification in advanced diagnostic ultrasound with over 140 hours of formal training performing abdominal and cardiac ultrasounds. She strives for lifelong learning to provide the best care to her patients.

She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), and Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VEECS).

Aside from practicing medicine, she enjoys relaxing by watching a good movie, gardening or spending time with family and friends. Dr. Perez has been married for over a decade to her husband Jason and shares her home with 3 chihuahuas and 3 cats: Jazmin, Nalah, Gabby, Bianca, Luna and Raisin.

Dr. Wu, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Wu was born in Taiwan and moved to the US when she was in third grade. She spent most of her childhood in Massachusetts and later Los Angeles. She got her undergraduate degree in biology and animal science at Cornell University. As a fun fact, she also spent a semester abroad in Florence learning culinary arts. Right after undergrad Dr. Wu went to vet school at UC Davis. There she worked with various non-profit organizations for pets of the homeless and feral cats.

Dr. Wu has a Labrador named Rose and a Bengal cross named Loki. On her free time she likes to take Rose on hikes and play fetch with Loki- yes, the cat plays fetch. She also enjoys cooking, reading and swing dancing. Dr. Wu is new to Turlock so she’s really looking forward to getting to know the town, the people, and the pets!
